Music Break: Metallica and the San Franciso Symphony Orchestra
May 2009 28

The above video is of Metallica’s “Call of Kutulu” from their 2007 Symphony & Metallica performances where they played with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Although they have been one of the world’s biggest heavy metal bands for the last twenty-five years this was not the first time that Metallica and the Orchestra had combined forces, in fact this song won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Metallica first worked with acclaimed film composer Michael Kamen in 1991 when he wrote the string arrangements on “Nothing Else Matters” before coming together again in 1999 and 2007 for a series of concerts with the Symphony Orchestra.
