Aspecks had the honour of meeting a rather distinguished global citizen the other night in the shape of the UK’s Foreign Secretary, the Right Honourable David Miliband MP. Mr Miliband has been the Member of Parliament for South Shields in the the North East of England since 2001 and is currently the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. The Secretary of State’s credentials as a global citizen are not just reliant on his position either as he was born in London to a Polish mother and a Belgian father. Aspecks believes that we are all global citizens so we will be launching a campaign to promote this belief and to investigate what it means to be a member of global society.

Monkeying around

Alcoholism cuts across many cultures and apparently even affects our primate cousins much in the same way it does us. To add to the evidence in the video there are reports of intoxicated monkeys attacking humans, which does not buck the apparent trend of drunken brawls in humans as well. This study on the parallels between our cousins and us also reports that monkeys are just as individualistic as humans when it comes down to their taste for alcohol and interestingly adds that socially isolated monkeys drink more (the inference being that loneliness creates more sorrows to drown). Music Break – Sound of Kuduro

There is something to be said for fusion sounds and Buraka Som Sistema is no exception.Afro-techno hip hop samba with Portuguese lyrics if I may. It’s the result of an Angolan-inspired Portuguese-grown music scene. In their own words the video to Sound of Kudoro feat M.I.A. is an expression of Angolan sub-cultures.
