Rafiqi Rafiki and the Myndz Community1

Here at Aspecks we are delighted to be able to introduce you to one of our newest affiliates Rafiqi Rafiki, a collective of artists and media practitioners whom have collaborated with the Myndz Community to create media and art. They are community activists, professional journalists, students, indigenous cultural performers, non-governmental organization board members, African vocalists, street performers, and individuals dedicated to the creation of media for the promotion of social change and development in Africa. And for those that do not already know “Rafiqi” is Swahili for “friend”,  so a rather appropriate affiliation indeed! A special thanks has to go out to Jothee also known as Kiiru wa Ngotho who hooked up this exchange of culture, knowledge and skills. Jothee is a rap lyricist, and chanter who executes the audio effects, coordinates musical projects for the Rafiqi project and is also a audio and sound specialist.

The Myndz Community‘s mission is to employ media to provide quality, efficient and accurate information to encourage communication for a harmonious social, political and economic environment in service of social change, human and media development throughout Africa. Myndz Visual creates visual media through collaborations with visual artists who utilize various expressive mediums to communicate their ideas, sentiments, and stories. They work with graphic designers, make-up artists, fashion designers, radio broadcasters, motion picture directors, videographers, web deisgners, print media designers, indigenous craft makers, painters, and sculptors

Myndz Audio furnishes recording artists, musicians, composers, radio broadcasters, radio journalists, cultural performers, sound and audio engineers with an artistic, creative and business platform to produce, publish, package, market, distribute and broadcast their works.

Myndz Literature celebrates the value of ideas born in the mind, organized and expressed through the printed word. We create and assist the materialization of the literary works of poets, playwrights, journalists, scriptwriters, songwriters researchers and community and cultural leadership to create literary media for print, performance, and public information.

Myndz Theatre Develops and assists community theatre productions and the documentation of theater performances in urban and rural settings. We accommodate the lighting, audio, print media, publicity, as well as other production requirements of a multitude of performing artists and theatre actors.

They work with students, cultural performers, church leadership, governmental adn civic organizations, artists, media practitioners and communication specialists to execute productions in formal and ad-hoc performance settings. Overall, they emphasize the creation and promotion of sustainable media throughout Africa while forming local and international partnerships premised on capacity building initiatives for the advancement of culture, education, the arts and social well being.
