The Cais Maloka Sustainable Community Project

Cais Maloka is a social action and research centre that as established a farm collective in the mountains of Dagua, through which local people work together to produce food and produce that makes their lives and the community more sustainable. Cais Maloka provide space and facilitation on the farm for individuals and groups to gather, to deepen their relationships and strengthen their communities, and to work together to research their own issues and plan actions and activities to generate change. They also reach out into local communities to support, facilitate and instigate collective activities and actions on issues that local people identify as important.

Cais Maloka aim to combat poverty in Colombia to prevent the negative experiences of migration, to cities, and to other countries, by inspiring and supporting people to work together to understand the causes of poverty in their lives, to believe that change can happen, and to take actions to bring about changes, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Our relationship with Cais Maloka stems from our interaction with last year with Columbian rapper and Cais Maloka ambassador – Jota Ramos who came to the UK on the European leg of the Cais Maloka awareness campaign.

Why a Global Citizen Jam?

As you may know, Aspecks Ltd is a web-based multi-media and merchandising social enterprise. We have run an awareness campaign designed to highlight the many aspects of our identities that bind us together as human beings and constitute our distinct cultures and sub-cultures via our t-shirt line; website and even a music video under the Global Citizen moniker.

We believe that music is the perfect medium for many different people to come together to celebrate their respective cultures and perhaps learn a little something new. Consequently, the Global Citizen jam has been designed to celebrate global music bringing together different groups of people and sub-cultures.
