Global Citizen Campaign Internship Competition
The Internship Competition
As a part of the Global Citizen Campaign (which we see as a continuous activity), Aspecks has identified several areas where we would like to focus our attention and resources, working with others to make a difference. Aspecks has decided to run a creative competition aimed at students and young people (although the only barrier to entry is to be age 16 and above) to find the most suitable articulation of what it means to be a global citizen. The grand prize we are offering will be a month-long internship opportunity in Ghana, helping to teach other people a range of business and entrepreneurial skills with Global Mamas (an international fairtrade cooperative which is part of the Women in Progress network).
The internship will provide the winner with the opportunity to embark on a life changing journey to help woman entrepreneurs grow their businesses and become self-sufficient through business and IT consulting and training. Global Mamas is able to customize the winners volunteering experience specifically to your academic talents, skill set, and interests. In Ghana you will gain hands-on, real-world, international experience in all functional areas of a business. This personally satisfying and meaningful internship will be highly respected by potential employers.
Aspecks Ltd will cover all costs of the internship including flights, visa, immunisation and medical insurance. Accommodation is provided however, the winner will need to take some money for food expenses. Assistance with budgetary planning can also be provided.

How it will work
We will conduct the competition via our website which will require the submission of creative/thoughtful outputs (including articles, artwork, music, viral videos, spoken and written word etc.) which will be based around your interpretation of the theme of “Global Citizenship”. The competition will be promoted at universities and student groups as well as the Future 100 network of companies and organisations. Entries will be judged on the basis of creative thought and effort; a cross-section of entries will be posted on the website.
There will be three stages for entering the competition;
i) interested parties will be required to register on the Aspecks website with a valid email address;
ii) entrants will be invited to purchase one of the dedicated Global Citizen t-shirts and finally;
iii) entrants will be asked to submit some form of content to the site in order to help determine the winner.
Ideally we would like to create an independent panel of people to judge the entrants against the criteria set forward by Aspecks and the host organisation. Moreover, we have earmarked four of our unique artworks for t-shirts (of which purchase will be a pre-requisite for the competition) to fund this undertaking.
Making the competition a success
In order to make the competition a success (i.e. to raise enough money to fund the internship) we need to ensure sufficient participation. Therefore we intend on mobilising our existing contacts within some of the UK’s universities and building new relationships to bring this opportunity to the widest possible audience. Of course if we receive a very high level of interest then we may be able to fund two, three or four internships. Equally, any shortfall in the volume of entrants would have to be met by Aspecks Ltd or prolong the duration of the competition. This is why we are also exploring the possibility of corporate sponsorship of the competition, as this will increase our legitimacy and possibly provide an additional internship opportunity.
Our competiton partners
We have identified synergies with many other organisations and are currently in discussions with an international NGO to about the possibility of Aspecks funding a four week internship in Ghana as a grand prize for the most distinguished Global Citizen to emerge from the campaign competition. This prize of work experience in Ghana will be the ultimate fulfillment of A.S.P.E.C.K.S’ goal of promoting the spirit of cultural exchange and skills collaboration within the context of global society.
